PAV Events F34 truss mother grid installation in iconic heritage listed building

Our friends at PAV Events have been supplying AV, events and installations in Western Australia for almost 50 years and have proudly supported University of WA in many events.

With PAV Events extensive amount of experience working in one of Perth’s heritage listed buildings, Wintrop Hall, they were provided an engineered plan to execute and install a complete motorised mother grid rigging system for an upcoming opera event.

The grid comprised of more than 125m of F34 Global Truss with limited amount of attachment points in the building, they had to suspend 12 chain motors which required 2 x 8 way controllers to work simultaneously to enable them to lift the grid.

DQ worked swiftly to come up with a solution to link their 8 way controllers together and arranged for the appropriate cable to be overnighted to ensure an easy install process for the PAV team.

“The air-bagging of a little cable made all the difference for a gig we just loaded in. Thank you Tony and Lusia!”, exclaims Group Event & AV Manager, David Rayner.

No job or problem is too little for DQ to help solve — we lift the load off your shoulders so you can focus on the big things.

What style screen case do I need?

A buyer’s guide into investing in a protective case for your screens

There are a handful of factors when considering your next screen case investment;  affordability, reliability, useability and size.

Design Quintessence offers a wide range of screen cases to protect monitors, TV’s and commercial LED screens. Each style of case is designed to suit a specific application scenario and our local Design and Manufacturing Team makes sure each customised case is specified and built to order.

The three main reasons why choosing a case suitable for you will be worth every penny:

  1. Protect the screen from being damaged in transit
  2. Provide a space-efficient, practical storage solution whilst the screen is not in use
  3. Make it easy to move the screen whether it be from warehouse to venue, venue-to-venue or room-to-room

The screen case solutions offered by Design Quintessence satisfy these requirements very well.

Screen Cases with Motorised Electric Lift

Some desirable features for a screen case in a conference venue, training centre or corporate event space are speed and ease of set-up.

Our range of cases with motorised electric lifts can help save you a lot of time. All you need to do is roll the case into position, remove the case lid(s), plug-in the power and at the press of a button you can simply raise the screen to your desired height of up to 1500mmH.

These useful features will help you save on labour and time costs to ensure the delivery of a successful event.

In a lot of smaller events and venues (e.g., corporate events) setting up the venue needs to be quick and easy. Meanwhile, the screens need protection while in transit or storage. To save you the time and hassle of taking the screens out of their storage boxes, connecting their brackets and mounting them on a wall or a stand, Design Quintessence is offering a range of protective screen cases with a motorised lift included in the case. The screen can remain attached to the lift while being stored or transported, and once on site, it is only a matter of plugging it in and pressing a button to lift the screen out of the case. The screen can be lifted up-to about 1.5m out of the ground in a matter of seconds.

We custom fit each case with specialised high-density EVA foam to suit the exact dimensions of the screen, include necessary cut-outs and storage for all the accessories, cables and controls and wire up the lift so the case is “ready for battle right out of the box”. Ovation offers two ranges of screen cases with motorised lift, each featuring a different electronic lift and specific features:

  • 2 x Foam lined compartments for power supplies, remote controls, cables and accessories.
  • Customised EVA foam blocks to protect the screen while in storage.

Off-the-shelf Screen Cases with Custom Fit-Out:

While Ovation Screen Cases with Motorised Lifts tick all the boxes when it comes to features, sometimes you just need a simple economic solution to protect the screens when in transit and storage.

We offer a full range of ready-made cases for screens from 35 inches all the way to 85 inches that just do that. The larger sizes benefit from a clamshell lid configuration, i.e. a two piece lid that makes lifting and removal much easier. Our local Design and Manufacturing team prepares the custom fit-outs specifically for your screen(s) using CNC machined EVA foam. Below is the list of features for the off-the-shelf screen cases:

Large Format Motorised Lift Screen Case
  • High-density non-abrasive EVA foam with closed cells to protect the screens.
  • Machined edges to stop at the bezel so the screen surface is kept untouched.
  • Chamfered edges to assist in guiding the screen into the slot.
  • Heavy-duty hardware and extrusions to ensure durability and quality.
  • Clam-shell (two-piece) lid configuration on larger cases for ease of handling.
  • Can be for dual or single screen(s) with or without mounting bracket.

Large Slimline Rolling Cases:

In addition to wider full castor height screen cases, we offer a super compact case option built using ball corners on the base in which small castors are incorporated. This results in a large format screen case that is as compact as it can possibly be but can still be rolled into position.

Screen Carry Cases:
We have a range of plywood and hard plastic carry cases that we stock on the shelf. High density EVA foam inserts are carefully designed and cut specifically for your nominated screen with or without your screen stand.

Kambri Film Festival nights with Elite Event Technology

Kambri at ANU played host to the first Kambri Film Festival down in Canberra this year and Elite Event Technology were chosen as ANU and Kambri Precincts preferred supplier.

With over 30 years of experience and audio-visual suppliers to majority of Canberra’s venues and institutions, they were recently approached to provide a complete LED screen structure in which the pre-requisite of the design was to create a clean and neat structurally sound LED structure without the use of concrete ballast blocks in obstruction of their set up.

Set on the stage of the purpose-built Kambri Outdoor Amphitheatre, EET’s expert team were able to design and deliver the structure built completely out of F45 5 Chord Truss, which was able to withstand all types of weather, such as the freak hailstorms, slight drizzles or the scorching heat,  that came across Canberra throughout the course of over a week in January

The F45 5 Chord Truss is designed for applications such as LED screens where balanced centre rigging of the screen panels on the truss is essential. A central chord with ladder-style horizontal bracing on the bottom face of the truss allows LED panels to be clamped directly onto the centre chord. This negates the need to balance the load by slinging or bracing across the two bottom chords to provide central rigging points as would normally be necessary on a square format truss.

Our 20 years of experience in the industry has proven our commitment to supply our loyal clients with the right solution, when it’s needed, where it’s needed. At Design Quintessence, we understand the importance of time and stock availability in producing big events on time and we do our best to supply you with everything you need.

As the market leader for truss solutions across Australia, we pride ourselves in dealing with clients who are aware and articulate about the quality and safety of our products and we will continue to provide the market with the highest standards across the range so you can always shine on stage.

    Entech 2020 gets Ovation’d

At Design Quintessence, we have set our mission to be the best in the industry and provide the professionals with the best solutions available in Australia. In recent years, DQ has heavily invested in the latest and most sophisticated design and manufacturing tools to establish in-house production of quality road cases. We are able to design and manufacture custom cases and inserts for protecting your valuable equipment.

For us, however, road cases are more than basic boxes. Protecting equipment is only the bottom line of any road case, and a lot of companies already struggle to provide this basic functionality in their cases. A well-designed road case can make life easier for your crew, save you money on transit, give your equipment the professional look they deserve, and make your operations a breeze.

    • Local Manufacturing means you can have your cases exactly how you want them in a matter of days.
    • In-house Designers generate detailed drawings of your custom cases so you get to check and approve the design before they are built.
    • European Hardware and Materials guarantee the highest build quality and durability for the cases to protect your equipment for years.

Entech Roadshow 2020 is just around the corner and a lot of our loyal customers wanted to present their new gear at the show in the best way possible. It was the perfect scenario for us to put the efficiency and agility of our production floor in test. And we are happy to report that All our clients received their new custom cases ahead of the schedule.

Keep an eye for our Ovation cases at Entech roadshow this year. Here are a few cases on exhibition at different stands:

    • Flip Up Mixer Case for Allen and Heath Avantis Console
    • Screen Lift Ovation Case for 65” TV
    • Multi-purpose Packer Ovation Case
    • Unitour Rack Case

    Words from our Sales team

As 2019 draws to a close, we at DQ Sydney pause and reflect on another challenging and exciting year that’s been. You could say we have done it all – from a ground support roof structure incorporating our new Five Chord truss, to a noise reducing enclosure, to the monster F104 truss!

We appreciate the opportunities to be involved in with all your projects.

The varied unusual road cases that house anything from multiple kitchen appliances, furniture, exhibition stand to a case that require an army of men to handle, or even providing a simple case solution for table tennis bats & balls  – we love a good challenge or few!

We admire those that travel to see us from as far away as Dubbo, Orange, Central Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, even those over the bridge, crossing the M5 or new M4 tunnel or even over the fence (if you know, you know).

Our friendly distant neighbours up in one of the most northern parts of Australia, Northern Territory, really are the red centre. Servicing one of the most iconic places in the world where Uluru lives, we cannot express enough appreciation for the work you do for the local and indigenous community. They may be the most remote community, and sometimes it may take days for anything to arrive, yet still manage to consider us as their recommended supplier.

Let’s not forget our friends over in South Australia, this year has brought growth in partnerships. Some of these new partnerships have come from referrals from DQ’s already established loyal clients, which we appreciate and admire your continuous support.

We have been able to help and provide solutions for some interesting tenders and unique projects, such as, flown scoreboards, to freestanding lighting ladders.

We appreciate all our relationships, be it new or long-term, that have been established this year and have enjoyed seeing and speaking to everyone of you. Your continuous on-going support, be it an enquiry, a simple coupler or a truck or van load of equipment are always valued and our team members are always happy to help.

We look forward to our continued collaboration and serving our part, to help your business grow and succeed in the new year and help spread happiness for the general public and bringing local communities closer together.

Wishing all of you a happy and safe holidays. We look forward to you challenging us again and pushing us to be a better version of DQ in 2020.

Element Rigging create an interactive Cocoon for Melbourne’s White Night Reimagined

White Night Reimagined took the best of White Nights past and extended it into a 3-night winter spectacular this year across three of Melbourne’s inner-city parks and gardens from 22-24 August.

Element Rigging’s managing director, Rob Irwin, was approached to part-take in such an amazing and immersive project that involved a large-scale interactive installation that was 15.0m in diameter and 7.0mH supported using F34 Global Truss at Treasury Gardens in ‘The Sensory Realm’.

Amigo & Amigo is a Sydney artists’ studio directed by Simone Chua with a background in sculpture and industrial design. Their body of work showcases their ability to use light and material to transform spaces and engage the general public.

The Cocoon is a portal to help facilitate connection and growth, and a reminder that we are not alone — we are always surrounded by people and possibilities.

This magnificent masterpiece allowed the general public to contribute their heartbeat to the external lights and be adventurous and crawl inside of the Cocoon and be held in its immersive floating embrace. They were allowed to take their time to absorb the living, animated pulses which flowed up and around them.

At Design Quintessence, we pride ourselves on supplying the most extensive range of products and solutions across the industry. Appreciation of our products by the expert eyes of the art community is just another proof for the quality of our solutions.

Element Rigging have recently inherited over 110 metres of F34 Global Truss pieces from an art installation by Julian Opie’s City of Skyscrapers. Opie turned National Gallery of Victoria’s Federation Court into an immersive environment and had installed an entire city of skyscrapers which reached up to 13 metres into the sky. The general public had the opportunity to experience this installation from 9th November 2018 through til 17th February 2019.

Luminous Entertainment lights up with Ovation

    Luminous Entertainment

Luminous Entertainment are well-known for their creative work, whether it’s lighting and AV for a small private event, large-scale arena production, or anything in-between, they strive to understand peoples’ needs and deliver right solutions to support their projects to give them peace of mind.

“”𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒃𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚.””

When one of Luminous’ directors, Joshua Vozzo, approached DQ to find a solution for their recently inherited ETC EOS 4K Lighting Console, they knew the Ovation Case brand was an easy choice. We, Design Quintessence, were on a mission to help them with their project and excited to help the guys at Luminous deliver a practical case for an exceptional team of people.

“It’s as simple as a request and nothing was too much to ask and the overall product was perfect to the millimetre,” exclaims Managing Director Lee Briggs.

Their case brief requirement needed to be able to house their console as well as have an additional rack space for a slide-out shelf to support their keyboard and mouse. Unlike the traditional two-piece mixer cases, the three-piece design allows for the operator to work on the mixer without any extrusions or hardware being in the way. The case was fitted with high-quality Adam Hall hardware all around to make sure maximum protection as well as usability.

We, just like Luminous, understand the needs of our community and know that a well-designed and built road case can help make lives easier for your crew, save you money on transit, give your equipment the professional look they deserve, and make your operations a breeze.

“With the service and reliability we have always received from DQ is evidently emulated in their case building,” says Lee.

We always appreciate those who travel in, near and far, and the guys at Luminous aren’t shy to drop into the office just to say G’day to the team.
