Fewer cases. Faster setup. Better protection. We caught up with James from AU Music Productions at Sydney Town Hall during the national Drag Roast 2026 tour. We wanted to find out how the Ovation HD8 Live Production Workstation is changing the way the team works on the road.

Presented by ITDEVENTS, Drag Roast 2026 was a national theatre tour. It travelled through Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth throughout July.
For AU Music Productions, it also provided a real-world touring test for a workstation. This workstation was designed to bring an entire video production setup together in one road case.
And according to James, the difference has been significant.
Bringing the video workstation together
One of the biggest changes for AU Music Productions has been consolidating equipment that previously travelled across several separate road cases into one integrated production workstation.
Saving around an hour in setup
The biggest benefit isn’t simply having fewer cases. Instead, it’s what happens when those cases arrive at the venue.
Keeping the equipment installed within the HD8 means much of AU Music Productions’ video system arrives already assembled, protected and ready to connect.
On the Drag Roast tour, James estimated that the workstation was saving the crew at least an hour during setup.
Previously, equipment needed to be removed from individual cases and positioned on tables. Then it was connected and patched together before the video production position was ready to operate.
With the HD8, the process is considerably simpler:
“Get it on the table, throw cables out, plug in patches and have it all running.”

A favourite feature — right down to the sound
When we asked James about his favourite feature of the HD8 aside from protecting the gear inside, one detail stood out: the gas-lift monitor section.
The workstation allows the screens and production equipment to remain protected inside the case during transport. Afterwards, it opens into the working production position on site.
