In the world of motor racing, speed, skill and precision are the main players that create a symphony of adrenaline-fueled excitement. Behind the scenes, it is driven by an unwavering commitment to performance, quality, and acute attention to detail.
MotoKinetic, the leading bespoke automotive events consultancy in the Asia-Pacific region, fully understands the challenges that come when you’re on and off the track. Continually evolving, they brought their expertise and dedication to the team at Design Quintessence to collaborate in the design of a personalised road case.
In early March 2023, MotoKinetic reached out to the DQ team with a concept to turn into reality for the storage and transportation of their racing helmets. MotoKinetic was previously in contact with the DQ team to purchase Encore road cases that served them well. However, they made the decision to upgrade as they needed a more customised design to suit their new requirements and to ease transportation. Their design concept features individual space for each helmet, allowing for organisation, and a door for ease of access.
However, the initial design posed challenges. The combination between the size of the door and the fast-paced environment necessitated a solution to prevent any disruption towards the staff while the case was in use. At the same time, the door needed to be kept with the case at all times to ensure smooth operation and storage.
Therefore, DQ’s design team, with the help of suggestions from the client, rectified the design to have a removable door instead of being hinged with the case. Additional sturdy edge handles were also added to facilitate lifting and carrying the door while wearing gloves. To further optimise functionality, the team attached specialised hardware to allow for the door to be securely hung at the back of the case, allowing full access to the helmet shelves in the front.
The redesigned concept also features sturdy shelves, meticulously lined with high-density EVA foam and trimmed with aluminium edging. This industry-standard closed-cell foam exhibited exceptional resistance to water and grease absorption, ensuring optimal protection for the equipment during transit.
Through this collaborative effort, MotoKinetic and Design Quintessence exemplified their unwavering commitment and innovation in the motorsports industry. Combining their expertise and meticulous design approach, it resulted in a high-quality bespoke Ovation case that protected the helmets used in the high-performance motor racing industry and catered to the client’s use-case scenarios in transit and in the pit.
